Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, and godparents. Her father was absent from her family. In her early years, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to associations with words. Ford was attracted to acting in her teenaged years, and joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one week she decided it wasn't suitable for her. Ford rather than applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot after her third try, applied and won a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler who is a character that was recurring on Doctor Who. Ford's debut on TV was a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate was featured in such programs on television like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London Burning. Tate would also frequently work in theatre and eventually joined the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
